NGN – Not Gala Night and the awarding of medals
An evening of gentle diversion when Gentlemen foregather at an exotic
venue, the fine Nepalese Gurkha Tandoori at Thomas A Beckett, Worthing, to dine in an atmoshere of conviviality, and at which each Gentleman present makes a short speech and presents an award to one of his fellows. The Gurkha Tandoori was awarded a certificate for its excellent hospitality and the certificate was proudly displayed for dinners to see. Gurkha certificate
(Regrettably the Gurkha Tandoori has had to close, hopefully temporarily, due to a terrible fire that consumed several buildings. We wish the proprietors well and hope to see them up and running again in the not to distant future)
Although prized by the audience, brevity is not the hallmark of all the
speeches. Occasions have been known to arise in which impaired
sobriety leads to good-natured heckling as per this example:-

Those who have confirmed their attendance are mailed an NGN Summons with a the name of a recipent, and a length of ribbon with which to fashion a medal or
other decoration to be attached to the recipient after a short speech
of explanation. Follow the link below for a brief description of the great honours bestowed upon gentlemen of the FGCC over the years.
Libations are naturally a part of the proceedings.
Formal cycling dress is encouraged: black tie, dinner jacket and cycling shorts.
